Breathable garments allow excess heat and moisture to evaporate rather than being trapped against the body. An ultra-thin film is laminated (pressed) to the inside of the outer fabric together with a protective lining. The film allows water molecules in the form of steam to pass through while protecting the wearer from rain or snow. The difference in temperature between the inside and outside is what drives the steam through the garment. This is what makes the garment breathable.
EquTex garments are both waterproof and breathable, protecting the wearer from the elements while keeping the body cool and dry by transporting excess heat and moisture away. EquTex is a combination of specific membranes with selected outer fabrics for specific needs. All seams on EquTex garments are taped.

EquTex garments can withstand a water pressure of at least 10,000 mm. They also have a breathability rating of at least 10,000 g/m²/24h.
Waterproofing is measured in water columns, which indicates how much pressure a fabric can handle before it starts leaking. The higher the water column, the more pressure the fabric can withstand.
Breathability is measured in grams of water a square meter of fabric can allow to pass through in 24 hours. The higher the number, the more moisture the fabric can release.
